Steps to Apply for the SASSA Old Age Grant

Go to your nearest SASSA office to apply for an old age grant. And fill the application form. If you want to submit your application online then read carefully the instructions by the SASSA service website. If you are old enough to visit the SASSA offices then your friend or any family member can apply on your behalf.The person applying on your behalf should take a letter from you combined with a doctor’s note that will justify why you cannot apply for SASSA physically.

Documents Needed to Apply for Elderly Grant

  • Your African ID number, if you don’t have an ID. Then provide Your original 13-digit bar-coded ID
  • From the SASSA standard affidavit template, you are expected to complete the Affidavit form and this should be done in the presence of an Oaths Commissioner who should not be an employee of SASSA. How much is the SASSA Old Age Grant?

When applying for the SASSA Old Age Grant, if your application is successful you will receive payments from the time you lodged your application. SASSA issues R2,200 to Old Age Grant individuals who are 75 and older and R2,180 to the rest who are less than 75 years. These payment amounts would have provided for the SASSA increased grant payments for the proposed yet 2024 financial year.

Where an application has been declined, the applicant is informed through a written notice indicating the reason for the decline by SASSA. Where you feel dissatisfied with such a decision, you are free to appeal to the Minister of Social Development at the National Department of Social Development. Just a reminder, when appealing to SASSA, the appeal must be done within 90 days from the date that you were informed that your application has been declined.

You will be informed not less than three months to the review or the date by which you are supposed to present a life certificate.
